Do Braces Hurt?
Accorde Orthodontists strives to offer the best when it comes to orthodontics and braces in Champlin, Maple Grove, and Rogers, MN. When many patients are told that they should undergo orthodontic treatment, they can be a little tentative. This is understandable; wearing braces is a completely new experience. At Accorde, our goal is to alleviate your fears through our dedication to patient care and information. One of the most common questions that our patients wish to have answered is this simple, yet broad, question: do braces hurt?
Will Having Braces Put On Be Painful?
Though having braces put on may be uncomfortable, you shouldn’t feel any pain during the process. The procedure will be different depending on which of our many types of braces you choose from, but it should take about one to two hours for the process to be completed.
Does it Hurt to Wear Braces?
While there won’t be any pain during the procedure of putting braces on, your teeth and gums will probably be sore for a while afterward. It won’t be painful, though it will likely be an annoying irritation for around a week or so. After a month, you should be completely used to the braces.
How Can I Relieve Any Discomfort?
If you happen to be feeling any discomfort from your braces, there are several things you can do to lessen the pain or irritation. Some of these solutions include:
- Take an over-the-counter pain relief medicine like Tylenol or Ibuprofen.
- Apply some orthodontic wax to the parts of your bracket that are causing you discomfort. Make sure to let us know if you need us to supply you with wax.
- Limit yourself to softer foods when you’re getting adjusted to wearing braces.
- Avoid eating very acidic foods like orange juice and lemonade.
