We’re proud to treat children and adults alike, and we’ve helped countless professionals achieve a new smile. But if you’re like many adults considering straightening their teeth, you may have one major question: can I get braces if I have a dental implant?
Braces & Dental Implants
Dental implants are one of the most effective tooth replacement treatments on the market, and many adults enjoy a complete smile thanks to dental implants. But what if you want to straighten your smile after getting dental implants? Do braces work with dental implants?
Yes and no. On one level, it’s entirely possible to get braces with dental implants – the treatments aren’t mutually exclusive. The catch is that braces can’t move a dental implant because the titanium implant is fused to the jawbone. Unlike natural teeth, which are supported by the fleshy periodontal ligament, implants sit directly in the jawbone, which means braces can’t move them.
But this doesn’t mean you can’t have braces with a dental implant. It’s possible to use the implant as an anchor point off which to move other teeth, and in many cases, your Rogers orthodontist can simply move the teeth around the implant to create a better smile. So while braces can’t shift the position of dental implants, they can shift the position of other teeth – so you can still get braces if you have a dental implant.
